Auburn could have a surplus of quarterbacks by two-a-days, as the Tigers landed their second quarterback, and the potentially highest-profile prospect, of the 2009 recruiting class.
Tyrik Rollison, rated the nation’s No. 2 dual-threat quarterback by Rivals.com, committed to Auburn on Tuesday, according to multiple Auburn scouting Web sites. He is also considered the No. 9 recruit from Texas and the No. 60 overall recruit, according to Rivals.
“I know Auburn is where my heart was leading me,” Rollison told AuburnSports.com “It’s hard to believe I’m going to Auburn. Earlier in the process, I wasn’t even being recruited by Auburn, but I went and visited and it’s an amazing place.
“Once I leave my family in Texas and go to Auburn, it’s like I’m going to a whole other family.”
Rollison threw for 4,729 yards and 51 touchdowns during his senior season at Sulpher Springs High School in Texas. He added 1,094 yards on the ground with 14 more touchdowns, as he led the team to a Class 4A Division II state title.
Rollison could have trouble qualifying, but he has time to resolve those issues.
He is the second Texas product to commit in as many days. Mansfield Summit defensive lineman Nosa Eguae committed Monday. Both players were heavily recruited by running backs coach Curtis Luper, according to AuburnSports.com.
Rollison joins Alabama Mr. Football, Leroy’s Clint Moseley, as the second quarterback of Auburn’s 2009 list of commits, which now stands at 22.
Auburn did not graduate any quarterbacks this season and will bring as many as seven, including six on scholarship, when August camp commences.
