After throwing a no-hitter in her first collegiate start and defeating the 18th-ranked team in the country in her second start, Auburn pitcher Jenee Loree was named the Southeastern Conference Softball Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Loree, a native of Jupiter, Fla., posted a 3-0 record in five appearances, two starts, in the opening weekend of the 2009 season.

Loree helped the Tigers to a 4-1 start at the FIU Tournament in Miami.

In her first collegiate start, Loree threw the 19th no-hitter in Auburn softball history as the Tigers defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 2-0.

Loree fanned eight and, with the win, handed Tina Deese her 400th victory as the head coach of the Tigers.

The Tigers (4-1) return to action today against Jacksonville State (3-1) in Jacksonville. Game time is set for 5 p.m.

Boddie No. 1 nationally in assists
After dishing out 12 assists in No. 5 Auburn’s 81-54 rout of Alabama on Sunday, senior point guard Whitney Boddie finds herself in a new position as she moved into the No. 1 spot in the nation in assists per game.

Boddie is the first Tiger to lead a national statistical category this season after leading the SEC for most of the year.

She currently averages 8.3 assists per game, up from 8.0 last week.

Her back-to-back games of 11 assists against Ole Miss and 12 assists at Alabama propelled her into the top spot, passing Kansas State’s Shalee Lehning (8.0 apg).
