BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Hall of Fame coach Billy Joe is back in coaching. He landed at Division II Miles College for yet another rebuilding job yesterday.
The 67-year-old Joe ranks behind only Eddie Robinson in victories at historically black colleges with 237 wins in 31 seasons as a head coach at three schools.
Joe replaces Wade Streeter, who was fired after seven seasons at the school which competes in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Joe led Florida A-and-M to five Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference titles in 11 seasons, including seven straight playoff trips and a semifinals appearance in 1999.
He was fired at Florida A&M in 2005 when the school self-reported 196 rules violations among its 15 men's and women' sports over a seven-year span.
An NCAA investigation found no wrongdoing by Joe, and the university later agreed to a 135-thousand dollar settlement with the coach.
He was out of coaching last season.
