Weather-proofing your home in cold weather

»  Comments | Post a Comment

When temperatures dip into the teens it is very easy to tell how energy efficient your home is. Does the heat in your home turn off? When it turns off, does suddenly start to feel colder? Does it feel drafty around any doors and windows? If you answered yes to any these questions, your home probably needs some updating. Replacing windows and doors can be expensive. One cheap quick-fix can be replacing the weather stripping. Over time the rubber dries and cracks allowing cold air in. Also, don't forget to replace your air filter every 90 days. This helps your home heater work more efficiently. Also, check around light switches on exterior walls. If you feel cold air coming in around them-there are rubber gaskets that can be purchased to go underneath the face plate. This can also reduce the amount of cold air coming into your home.
