ArtPartners 2009 benefiting VSA arts of Alabama – August 9, 2009
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- VSA arts of Alabama hosts the 7th Annual ArtPartners Live Auction and Showcase on August 9, 2009, at 5:30 p.m. at B & A Warehouse. The event features a live and silent auction of collaborative works of art created by community artists and individuals with chronic illnesses and disabilities. Serving as honorary hosts will be Dr. John Cortopassi and Ms. Patty McDonald. Honorary chairs for this year’s event will be Nick Lanzi, Scott Lewis and Malone Morgan.
ArtPartners, developed in 2003, is VSA arts of Alabama’s signature mentoring program. Its mission is to provide a socially inclusive environment where local community artists and VSA emerging artists with chronic illnesses and disabilities can engage in meaningful relationship building through direct one-to-one engagement in the creative arts.
Throughout the fall and spring, community artists work one on one with children and adults with chronic illnesses and disabilities to create masterpieces together. The program culminates with the ArtPartners Live Auction and Showcase, featuring these colorful and whimsical collaborative works.
The ArtPartners Live Auction and Showcase features a live auction by Guin Robinson with approximately 50 pieces of collaborative art from ArtPartners studio time. An additional 100 pieces will be featured in the silent auction. Attendees will also enjoy live music, wine and great food. Due to the overwhelming enthusiasm of the emerging artists and their families, the event typically draws over 450 attendees. Funds raised at the ArtPartners Live Auction and Showcase enable VSA arts of Alabama to continue providing opportunities in the arts to children and adults with chronic illnesses and disabilities across the state. VSA arts of Alabama provides arts programming in educational, community and healthcare settings.
A Preview Party and Artists’ Celebration will also be hosted for artists and their families by CVS and VSA arts of Alabama on August 2 at the CVS Regional Operations Center. VSA arts of Alabama will honor the talents of this year’s ArtPartners during the Preview Party. Each emerging artist and their community art partner will have their work recognized and celebrated.
