I actually find this question pretty humorous and usually respond with, "Where exactly did you think they went?" I know what they mean though...Alabama has had roller coaster seasons the past several years. It's usually the older generation Bama fans who recall found memories of Bear and remember what they call "the good old days" of Alabama football when every season was a possible championship season. But this is now and football is different.
A lot of fans...and I'm guilty of this too...get their hopes up every single year and think, "This could be the year!" I'm always optimistic. Sometimes it's hard to remember that the guys on the field are only 18...19...20 years old. They are young men still in the process of growing up. They suit up for practice and games not because they are getting paid. They get beat up day after day in practice and week after week in games so they can pay for their college tuitions...fulfill a dream they've had since they were little boys...or to make their parent's proud. Maybe make themselves a little proud too. I'm certainly proud of them. Right now they are undefeated and Bama fans across the nation are hopeful that they will make it all the way to the BCS title game. I think they can...but win or lose we should support them no matter what...and remember, they are just kids.
I have a quote on my desk from former Tide Coach Mike Shula that says, "To me, football and business, football and life, they all tie in together..." The older I get the more I disagree with that quote. Football is not life...it's a game...and it's only for a season.
