Dear Friends and Family,

I have volunteered to run the 2009 Mercedes Half Marathon in Birmingham, Alabama on February 15 of next year on behalf of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The organization helps fulfill the wishes and dreams of children with life-threatening medical conditions. They say that laughter is the best medicine…and I think that’s true.

This past summer I had the pleasure of meeting a 7 year old boy named Evan. To look at him you’d think he was a typical little boy. On the outside, Evan looked perfectly healthy. He was always smiling and his blue eyes always gleaming with love and maybe a little bit of mischief. What you wouldn’t realize just by looking at Evan is that he’s battling a very serious form of cancer. Evan’s one dream was to be a movie star…and this past summer his wish was granted. Evan had the opportunity to go to Atlanta and be a news anchor for the day at the CBS affiliate. Then, Evan went to Six Flags over Georgia where he starred in a live performance. Finally, his entire experience was made into a real movie and premiered at the Rave Theater in Vestavia, Alabama. The community rolled out the red carpet and about a hundred people showed up to scream his name, take pictures, and support their new favorite movie star. He even signed autographs and did interviews with local television stations in Birmingham…including mine. After the movie, the theater gave Evan a standing ovation for his award winning performance in The Evan Thomason Show AND for his fighting will and unwavering faith. Will Evan one day make it to Hollywood and star in a major motion picture? Only the good Lord knows. I think he will.

Please help other children like Evan. Because of your generous donation, wish children will have an opportunity to experience the healing power of a granted wish and hope for the future.
