We ran a story this morning on how men don't have a clue what to buy their significant others at Christmas. Guys, shopping for us ladies is not hard...if you LISTEN.
We showed some pretty humorous video this morning on Today in Alabama of guys walking around department stores absolutely clueless. I worked in retail for about 7 years, pre-13 days, and I was a manager for a couple of those years. Around Christmastime I'd always tell my employees and co-workers to look out for single guys coming in and to always, always, always help them out. I loved the ones that had no idea what size their wife wore. They'd look at me, or another female employee, and say, "she's about your size" or, "she's a little smaller/larger than you." Hey, at least they are making an effort and not getting her a gift card. (Which, by the way, gift cards are fine if she's told you she wants money...but I think cash is better because then she is not limited to where she can shop. If you take the easy option and give her cash then offset it by doing something extra sweet that doesn't cost a thing...maybe a gift certificate for laundry duty for the week...or do her share of the dishes.)
My husband HATES going shopping with me...but he makes the effort to go with me every once in a while. Why? He knows I enjoy it...and he also treats it as an opportunity to find out what I like...don't like...what size I wear in shoes...clothes...etc. Smart. Simply the fact that he is going with me and choosing to spend time doing something that I enjoy...instead of on the golf course...is sweet in and of itself.
Always remember that Christmas is not about the gifts under the tree...it's about family and friends and the sweet moments we share together every single day. It's about celebrating the birth of Jesus...the sweetest gift of all. God Bless your family and I hope you have a very Merry Christmas!
