Ahhh...the perfect Saturday in Tuscaloosa. The smell of college football is in the air...a cool breeze early in the morning hinting that fall is right around the corner...and puppies playfully barking and getting ready to run 3.1 miles. WHAT?!?! Yes, that's right...it's time for the Canine Classic 5K benefitting the West Alabama Humane Society. This year's event will be September 13 at Snow Hinton Park in Tuscaloosa. After the race check out the Pampered Pooch Palooza because after the run, the pups deserve to be pampered. (Or if your pup is like my beagle, Saddie, it will be content just watching you run and acting as a barky little cheerleader.)
Registration for the race starts at 7 a.m. Race time is 8 a.m. The first 100 registrants will receive a t-shirt on race day and awards will be given away to the top 3 overall male and female runners...and a Masters prize will be given to the first place man and woman over 40. Registration is only $15 on race day, and remember that it goes toward a great cause....pets that need a good home. If you have any questions call Ed or Betty Freeman at 205-342-0028 or Jimmie Perry at 205-554-0011.
After the 5K check out the Pampered Pooch Palooza. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and a relaxing quarter mile trot or walk begins at 9:30 a.m. (A perfect cool down after you run 5K!) The cost is only $8.50 and includes all Palooza events, a goody bag, and eligibility for door prizes.
Palooza events include:
The Pampered Pooch Promenade 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m.
Costume Contest 11 a.m.
Fur Baby Bazaar 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m.
The Alabama Crimson Tide plays Western Kentucky that day so go early and run for a good cause. At least you'll feel better about scarfing down that second or third game day hot dog.
Always remember...life is a marathon, not a sprint.
