HUNTSVILLE, AL: Governor helps launch moon competition

HUNTSVILLEGovernor Bob Riley will join a team of Huntsville businesses, the University of Alabama at Huntsville, and two non-profit organizations to announce the group will compete to put a robot on the moon.  The Rocket City Space Pioneers will compete for the Google Lunar X PRIZE with their lunar lander.  The Google Lunar X PRIZE is a $30 million international competition to safely land a robot on the surface of the moon, travel 500 meters over the lunar surface and send images and data back to Earth.  Governor Riley and the group will announce their entrance into the competition on Tuesday, September 7 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dynetics Corporate Headquarters, 1002 Explorer Blvd.
