LOACHAPOKA, Ala. (AP) - Seniors at Loachapoka High School in east Alabama have received HP netbooks equipped with wireless Internet access cards courtesy of Auburn University.
Timmesia Maddox says the laptops will allow students to ask their teachers for homework help and will allow students to work together on projects. She was one of about 45 seniors who received the laptops Wednesday.
Auburn's outreach coordinator, Christiana Russell, says the laptops are part of the university's plan to help students in schools with low resources be better prepared for college.
She told the Opelika-Auburn News that the netbooks and the wireless Internet access were funded through a $58,000 State Farm Youth Advocacy Grant. Students have to pay a $30 fee and return the netbooks at the end of the school year.
