$127M Retail development to bring hundreds of jobs to Leeds area

LEEDS, ALA.-- If you drive down interstate 20 east toward Leeds you notice heavy construction, concrete walls and dirt piles almost hugging the heavily traveled corridor that leads to and from Atlanta.
Before the end of the year, the initial phase of the multi- phase of the mixed retail development boasting more than 30 designer shops will open late fall of 2010.
It is estimated that the first phase of the Grand River Project will require an initial capital investment of approximately $127 million to develop a 330,000 square feet property with expandable capabilities of to 495,000 square feet. The developer, Daniel Corp. says the distinctive factory outlet center with also be equipped with destination entertainment and dining to complement the Barber Vintage Motorsports Park & Museum and Bass Pro Shops projects.
When complete, the first phase of Grand River is expected to create approximately 650 new jobs for the area and generate a net economic impact to the City of Leeds and surrounding areas of approximately $170 million over the next 25 years.
Additionally, the project is expected to generate approximately $32 million
in new revenues to support Leeds City Schools
