HUNTSVILLE, AL- Police say charges are pending in the case against an elderly man who killed a Huntsville Marine and critically injured his wife in a car wreck.
A Huntsville Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune was killed in a wreck on I-20 in Atlanta, Georgia Saturday.
A driver traveling the wrong direction hit the car driven by 21-year-old Lance Corporal Gregory Suedmeyer and his wife 19-year-old Katelyn Suedmeyer.
The couple was on their way to Alabama from North Carolina to visit family.
Friends told WAFF 48 News Gregory was a 2007 graduate of Grissom High School and Katelyn is a 2009 graduate of Grissom High School.
"Greg is one of those people that is just an amazing friend and one of those people that could make a bad mood go away by saying something funny. He will be missed," said friend Josh Cox.
"He was a really great guy and had a smile that you couldn't help but smile back at," said friend Katherine Ross.
Cobb County, Georgia investigators said they received several calls to 911 about a wrong way driver at Interstate 20 and Lee Road, in Douglas County.
The complaint was that a 2008 gray Chevy Silverado was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes.
The Silverado driven by 71-year-old Bruce Joseph Quayle of Villa Rica, Georgia collided head on with the Suedmeyer's Mitsubishi Mirage as they traveled under Six Flags Drive.
Gregory Suedmeyer was transported to Grady Hospital where he died of his injuries.
Katelyn Suedmeyer was transported by air ambulance to Atlanta Medical Center where she was listed in critical but stable condition.
Friends told WAFF 48 News Katelyn got out of surgery after 3:00 Sunday afternoon and is still in critical condition.
Quayle was transported to Grady Hospital where he is in stable condition.
Cobb County Police said they will meet Monday afternoon to discuss which charges to file against Quayle.
