BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA: Police report murder #5 in city

Homicide #5: Occurred on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at approximately 8:05 p.m.

The victim has been identified as:
Antonio King Sr., B/M, 33, of 1328 Princeton Avenue Southwest, Birmingham, Alabama.

Officers from the West Precinct responded to 407 Tuscaloosa Avenue Southwest to investigate a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers located the victim outside the apartment suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived and transported the victim to U.A.B. Hospital for treatment. On Monday, March 8, 2010, hospital personnel pronounced the victim deceased due to the injury he sustained. A second juvenile victim is expected to recover from his injury.

The suspect surrendered to officers a short time after the altercation and his identity will be released pending completion of warrant procedures. This case is still under investigation.

To date, five (5) chargeable Homicides have been reported in the City of Birmingham during 2010, compared to eleven (11) at this time in 2009.
