ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama's two-year colleges haveheld their first systemwide exercise to identify and plug holes in
their emergency response plans.
It was already scheduled to be held in Alexander City at Central Alabama Community College, but it became more timely after last
month's deadly shooting at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
Participants at the exercise Wednesday included college officials, students, local law enforcement and state emergency
workers. They were thrown into a fictional scenario involving a despondent student who sets off an explosion and sprays the campus
with bullets.
State EMA exercise officer Sam Guerrera, who moderated the session, said the system seems to be generally prepared but still has work to do in implementing the plans.
