Alabama slightly ahead of last year with refunds

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama's Department of Revenue reports
that the issuance of state income tax refunds is running slightly
ahead of last year, but there are processed returns waiting on
money to become available for refunds.
Department spokeswoman Carla Snellgrove said the state had
issued $168 million in refunds through February 2009 and $188
million through this February.
The department has approved another $79 million in refunds, but
they won't be issued until state funds become available.
Snellgrove said the department can't provide taxpayers with a
turnaround time on refunds because the issuance depends on tax
collections.
