MONTGOMERY, ALA.: Macon DA seeks Ruling On VictoryLand Machines

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -
A district attorney who believes the electronic bingo machines at VictoryLand are legal says he will
seek a court ruling clarifying the machines' legal status.
Macon County District Attorney E. Paul Jones said he will file for a declaratory judgment soon in Macon County Circuit Court.
VictoryLand has been closed for a month to prevent a raid by the governor's gambling task force.
Jones said the Alabama Supreme Court indicated the machines at VictoryLand were legal when it ruled in a jackpot dispute in November.
The court ruled that a customer was due no more than $2 from a disputed jackpot. Jones said the state's highest court could not have awarded any money to the customer if the machines at VictoryLand were illegal.
