UPDATE

Judge Scott Coogler has sentenced Gary White to 10 years in federal prison and pay $22,000 in restitution.

"The jury found you guilty. They found you acted corruptly and you are guilty. Period," said Coogler.

Federal defendants typically serve 85% of imposed sentence with good behavior.

If that holds in this case, White will be 71 when he released.

Former Jefferson County Commissioner Gary White has arrived at federal court in Tuscaloosa for his sentencing.

White walked into the courthouse about 8:00am CT today.

The former commissioner was originally convicted on conspiracy and bribery charges in 2008.

Prosecutors had argued in court that White accepted envelopes of cash, some were $2,000 at a time, from a Birmingham engineer that helped the engineer's company get sewer contracts.

An appeal was requested, but the court reinstated the conviction, and now sentencing is set for today.

*UPDATE: Sentencing is underway. It began at 9:30am CT. *
