News release from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office:
Sheriff’s Office Detectives Tuesday afternoon obtained a Capital Murder warrant against 23 year old Whitney Wilson of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Sunday night at about 9:30 pm, 10 week old Cadence Davidson, the daughter of Whitney Wilson, was taken to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.
The child was not conscious and had sustained several injuries including a skull fracture.
The injuries were determined to be non-accidental trauma.
The staff at Children’s Hospital immediately notified the Sheriff’s Office and an investigation was started.
According to Wilson she had been driving from Indiana to the McCalla area to visit her parents.
The child was riding with her in the car.
She stopped along the way to give the child a bottle but, the child did not seem interested in eating.
They arrived at her parents’ home at about 6:30 pm.
Wilson denied harming the child.
She said she was the only person who had been alone with the child.
Wilson’s father became concerned about the child when she became unresponsive and first took her to UAB West in Bessemer.
From there the child was transported to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.
When the child arrived at she was unresponsive and placed on life support.
Wilson was arrested Sunday night for child abuse and placed in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail.
Monday morning Cadence Davidson died as a result of her injuries.
Detectives from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office presented this case to the District Attorney’s Office in the Bessemer Division of Jefferson County late yesterday afternoon.
A Capital Murder with victim being less than 14 years old warrant was issued against Wilson.
She has no bond on this charge.
