HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - The former commander of Redstone Arsenal
and the Army Space and Missile Defense Command, Retired Lt. Gen.
Larry Dodgen, has died. He was 60.
Dodgen died Saturday of an apparent heart attack while playing
tennis.
Dodgen retired from the Army in January, 2007 and went to work
for Northrop Grumman. He became the company's corporate lead
executive for Huntsville.
He assumed command of the aviation and missile command at
Redstone on Sept. 10, 2001. That was the day before the terrorist
attacks on New York City and Washington, D.C.
He was remembered as a commander who considered the safety and
security of his troops and their families first and who was always
looking ahead for future challenges.
