HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - The University of Alabama-Huntsville is
struggling not only with grief but with nearly a vacant biology
department after three professors were killed by bullets that
police say were fired by a colleague.
Authorities allege that Harvard-trained researcher Amy Bishop
opened fire during a faculty meeting six days ago. Another
professor remains in a neuro-intensive care unit. Two other faculty
members also were injured, one critically.
The attack was witnessed by several members of the department's
14-member staff.
University President David B. Williams says work will begin soon
to rebuild the department. He says several colleges in the state
have offered teachers to help.
Funerals are scheduled to begin Thursday.
