MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama House has voted to establish
a commission to oversee the development, growth and maintenance of
recreational trails in Alabama.
The House voted 99-0 Tuesday for a bill by Republican Rep. Cam
Ward of Alabaster to establish the Alabama Trails Commission.
The commission will be part of the Alabama Department of
Economic and Community Affairs. The commission will oversee a wide
range of recreational trails, including those for hiking, biking,
running, horseback riding, motorized off-road vehicles and water
trails.
The bill now goes to the Senate, where Democratic Sen. Wendell
Mitchell of Luverne has a similar bill.
