Former Alabama Sen. Bill Menton dies at 90

IRVINGTON, Ala. (AP) - A former state senator and Mobile County
commissioner, Bill Menton of Irvington, has died.
Menton's son, Eddie Menton, said he died Monday. Menton was 90.
Menton was elected to the Alabama Senate in 1982. Then he served
on the Mobile County Commission from 1988 to 1992.
Before entering politics, Menton was police chief of Bayou La
Batre and a crime prevention officer for Mobile County schools.
After leaving public office, he became executive director of the
Alabama Fraternal Order of Police.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Cathedral-Basilica
of Immaculate Conception in Mobile, with interment following in St.
Michael Catholic Cemetery in Coden.
