Double shooting under investigation in Sylacauga

The Sylacauga Police Department is currently investigating an apparent murder and attempted suicide  that occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, August 31st 2010.

 

Police received a shots fired call around 4:20 AM, the caller directed police to the Blue Bell Creameries parking lot near the intersection of West 4th Street and North Anniston Avenue in Sylacauga.

 

Upon the arrival of officers a vehicle was located in the parking lot with two occupants inside. Shalanda Elaine Pope, 38, of Sylacauga was pronounced dead at the scene by Talladega County Coroner Jerry Castleberry. The second occupant, Michael Cornelius Milliner, 35, of Sylacauga, was air lifted to a Birmingham hospital, where at last report he was undergoing surgery.

 

Although early in the investigation, it appears the shootings are domestic related. Initial information indicates Pope and Milliner were previously married. The Sylacauga Police Department is investigating the case along with assistance from the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, Talladega County Coroners Office, and the Talladega County District Attorney.
