BP's incoming CEO says he's going to meet with Alabama leaders on Monday to discuss the state's $148 million claim against BP.
Bob Dudley spoke at the Southern Governors Association's annual conference at Ross Bridge in Hoover on Sunday.
Attorney General Troy King filed a lawsuit against BP the same day Governor Bob Riley filed the initial claim, which Dudley said complicated handling that claim. He says he was surprised by the lawsuit, especially that a percentage was for a legal firm, and he believes the money should go to the people.
"Our philosophy on all of this through all the claims process whether individula, businesses, or state and local governments is that we want to make sure the money gets to the people who've been impacted by it," Dudley said.
Dudley went on to say BP is far from finished helping the Gulf Coast recover from the oil spill and will continue to provide support for cleanup and recovery throughout the area.
