Alabama State Employees Association backs Sparks

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama State Employees Association is backing Democrat Ron Sparks for governor and Democratic incumbent Jim Folsom Jr. for lieutenant governor.

The association's political action committee announced endorsements in several races Tuesday.

The employees' group is supporting Republican incumbent Beth Chapman for secretary of state, Republican incumbent Sam Shaw for state auditor, Democrat Charley Grimsley for state treasurer, Democrat Glen Zorn for agriculture commissioner, and Democratic incumbents Jan Cook and Susan Parker for the Public Service Commission.

The group is supporting Republicans Kelli Wise and Mike Bolin and Democrat Mac Parsons for the three seats on the Alabama Supreme Court.

The association's executive director, Mac McArthur, says the candidates were endorsed because they have supported state employees.
