Jefferson County deputies stop an SUV believed to be smuggling ICE to the northeast USA.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Highway Safety Task Force stopped a Silver SUV that was being driven eastbound on I-20 between Irondale and Leeds Monday, November 23, 2009.
An investigation revealed 13 packages of ICE (Methamphetamine) hidden in the vehicle's under carriage that was apparently being smuggled to an unknown location.
The total weight was approximately 7 Kilos that has a street value of over $750,000.
ICE is a more potent formula of Methamphetamine that is preferred by drug abusers and most often comes from super meth labs in Mexico.
The driver of the vehicle, Daniel Francisco Ramos, age 19 was arrested for Trafficking Methamphetamine and was jailed with “No Bond”.
Mr. Ramos is an American citizen who is now living in Mexico with his family.
It is believed that this ICE was smuggled across the Mexican border and was headed for the East Coast of America for distribution.
