Jesse Jackson raps Artur Davis, then backs off

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Rev. Jesse Jackson is no longer being critical of Rep. Artur Davis of Birmingham for voting against a health care overhaul bill in the House.

The civil rights leader earlier had questioned how a black man could vote against the health care overhaul measure. He didn't name Davis, but Davis was the only member of the Congressional Black Caucus to vote against the bill.

Jackson released a statement Thursday saying he has talked to Davis and admires him. Davis is seeking the Democratic nomination for governor of Alabama in 2010.

Jackson said he does not challenge Davis' integrity as a leader.

Davis has said he supports health care reform, but disagrees with the approach taken in the House bill.
