BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- A couple of Birmingham mayoral candidates, including Interim Mayor Carole Smitherman, are raising questions about funding for the city's planned multi-purpose facility.
The dome stadium is still in the design phase and current construction cost estimates stand at $375 million.
Smitherman and others said the city's current $19 million annual funding commitment needs help.
Smitherman claimed without funding partners, the project might not be a reality in the current economic climate.
She raised some of those questions at today's Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center Board meeting.
