MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (AP) - An increase in rail traffic has
caused Norfolk Southern Railway to recall furloughed workers in
northwest Alabama.
Northfolk Southern furloughed 65 workers in July from what it
calls its "Sheffield yard," even though it is located in Muscle
Shoals. Operations at the Sheffield Yard were shifted to Birmingham
and Chattanooga, Tenn.
Company spokeswoman Susan Terpay said Monday traffic has picked
up and the railway has resumed operations at the Sheffield yard.
