JEMISON, Ala. (AP) - Voters in Jemison will decide Jan. 12 whether they want to permit the sale of alcoholic beverages within the city limits.

The Clanton Advertiser reports that the Jemison City Council approved a resolution Monday night setting the referendum.

A petition was presented to the council with 336 signatures, 230 of which belonged to voters registered in the city. The petition required a minimum of 220 signatures from registered voters to warrant a referendum.

A new law enacted by the Alabama Legislature allows municipalities with a population of 1,000 or more to hold a wet-dry referendum.
