Court OKs felonies against former Alabama Secretary of State Nancy Worley

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Former Alabama Secretary of State Nancy Worley is again facing felony charges.

The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals ruled 3-1 Friday that a lower court erred when it threw out five felony charges against Worley.

Worley, a Democrat, served one term as secretary of state before being defeated by Republican Beth Chapman in 2006. A Montgomery County grand jury indicted her in 2007 on five felony charges of using her official position to influence the vote or political action of five of her employees. It also indicted her on five misdemeanor charges.

A Montgomery judge threw out the five felonies and said the felony law was unconstitutionally vague. That prompted Attorney General Troy King to take the case to the Court of Criminal Appeals.
