BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Former Jefferson County Commissioner Mary Buckelew has been sentenced to 3 years probation for lying to a federal grand jury in August 2008.
Buckelew must also pay $20,000 fine and do community service for 200 hours in Jefferson County School District.
Buckelew has pleaded guilty to lying to the grand jury about receiving about $4,000 in gifts from investment banker Bill Blount between 2003-2004.
Blount received millions of dollars in county bond swap business while Buckelew served on the Jefferson County Commission.
Blount has pleaded guilty to a bribery conspiracy involving former Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford who was convicted himself 3 weeks ago.
