House passes historic health care bill

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The house has passed the sweeping healthcare reform bill late Saturday night.

The final vote was tight, with 220 members supporting the bill, and 215 members opposing it.

218 "yay" votes were needed for the bill to pass.

The bill would expand coverage to millions of uninsured Americans, and in part, prevent insurance companies from refusing coverage because of pre-existing conditions.

The bill passage is considered a major victory for President Obama, who has made healthcare reform a top priority in his administration.

The senate now has to vote on its version of the bill, which is not expected until at least December.
