Ala. landfill searched for baby's body

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Montgomery police have suspended the
search for an infant's body in a Lee County landfill after no
evidence was found there.
Major Huey Thornton told the Opelika-Auburn News Tuesday night
that officers will meet Wednesday to discuss their next steps.
Police say a woman in her mid-20s went to her doctor's office on
Oct. 19 and was about to deliver a baby. The woman refused to have
the baby then and signed a waiver before leaving.
She returned about a week later complaining about a cold but was
not pregnant. The doctor called police, who brought the woman in
and interviewed her.
Police say the woman claims she miscarried.
Officials believe the baby might have been delivered and put in
the trash. No charges have been filed.
