Bibb County School Superintendent Dr. Don Elam told police the husband confronted him at his home when his wife's contract wasn't renewed as an elementary school principal.
It's a story that starts here - at Brent Elementary when it's principal, Dr. Cheryl Fondren's contract wasn't renewed.
It ends here, at the home of Bibb County Superintendent, Dr. Don Elam. This is where Elam was reportedly assaulted by Fondren's husband, because of the decision not to renew her contract. According to the sheriff's report, not only was the superintendent knocked down, beaten and his ankle caught in a fence but his finger was also bitten all here at his property in brent.
Dr. Alesa Judd is Bibb County's assistant superintendent.
Bibb County Schools Asst Superintendent, Dr. Alesa Judd said, "He was treated and released from Druid City Hospital. He had a complication today, so he's gone back in but overall he's doing fine."
After the alleged assault, Elam called the sheriff's office and filed charges. Fondren turned himself in and faces a second degree assault charge. As for Fondren's wife...
Judd said, "She was a 2nd year principal, her contract goes until June 30th. That contract was non-renewed and she will retain her tenure as a teacher in the system."
According to Judd, Fondren is considering her options. Judd also said, while ten others employees also faced non-renewal, only a few were due to the economy. She added, there will be a replacement principal at Brent Elementary next year.
Tony Fondren was released on ten thousand dollars bond. We attempted to reach both Fondren and his wife, Cheryl. They turned us down for an interview.
