Father Drowns On Warrior River

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The search for a father who may have drowned in the Warrior River has been temporarily suspended.

Authorities said the man and his seven year old son were putting a canoe in the water last night in the Locust Fork branch of the Warrior River when the boat overturned. A 19-year old boy dove in and tried to save the father and son. He held their hands, but the current was strong and the father slipped away.

Authorities are using this tragedy as an opportunity to remind families in warrior about water safety.

"The biggest thing is if you are going to participate in water activities have a life jacket on before you set foot on a boat or get in water," said Fire Chief Clay Neely.

Crews will continue their search after the water recedes.
