BIRMINGHAM, Ala-- -- Shades Crest road is now completely open after a massive tree block one lane of the major thoroughfare Saturday morning.
Drivers had to use extra caution as they traveled throughout the Birmingham metro area.
Friday’s strong storms caused power outages for more than 100,000 Alabama Power customer throughout central Alabama. Gusty winds, some averaging around 50 mph, toppled trees and blocked major roads such as Shades Crest Road.
NBC 13’s Digital Journalist Linda White snapped photos and reports that drivers had to carefully use one lane to travel to and fro on the main road that travels up and down the mountain.
Officials did close the section of the road where a massive tree laid and as of 10:30 a.m. the road remained constricted to one lane.
Drivers are asked to use caution when driving on Shades Crest as well as many roads throughout the Birmingham Metro Area, especially during Saturday round of wet weather.
