News release from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office:
On June 4, 2009, the Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force received information from the Alabaster Police Department that there was possibly a methamphetamine lab located at a residence in the 200 block of Lee’s Cove, in Helena.
Task Force investigators, with the Helena Police Department, responded to the residence.
Once inside, investigators determined that there were chemicals and gases located within the residence consistent with the production of methamphetamine.
Helena, Alabaster and Pelham’s Fire Departments responded to the scene to assist with decontamination procedures.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration assisted with the hazardous materials clean-up and took custody of all chemicals and trash associated with the methamphetamine lab.
James Melton Green, 39 years of age, was arrested as a result of this investigation.
He is currently in the Shelby County Correctional Facility on the charges listed below, with a total bond of $1,531,000.00.
Unlawful Manufacture of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree $1,500,000.00 bond
Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance $15,000.00 bond
Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia $1,000.00 bond
Chemical Endangerment of a Child Where Controlled Substances Produced $15,000.00 bond.
