GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) - The search for a man witnesses said jumped
off the Meighan Bridge has been called off.
James Miller, captain of the Etowah County Rescue Squad, said
about 40 members of rescue squads from the area searched for the
man from 2 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
At least three witnesses reported to police about 12:40 a.m.
they saw a man jump.
Miller said eight boats were used in the efforts to find the
man. Crews dragged for a body, and divers and an underwater camera
were used.
Gadsden Police Sgt. Mark Henderson said officials believe the
man did jump, and it is now believed he survived and possibly swam
to shore.
