BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The federal government has approved the
Tennessee Valley Authority's plan to dispose of millions of tons of
spilled coal ash in a giant commercial landfill in Alabama.
Opponents say TVA is dumping unfairly near rural people in one of
Alabama's poorest counties. But the Environmental Protection Agency
says in a statement today it will allow the public utility to move
the ash from the site of a huge spill in Tennessee to Perry County
in central Alabama.
