QUINCY, Fla. --- United States Marshal Martin Keely told NBC13HD that Indiana pilot Marcus Schrenker had been bleeding for about an hour when deputy marshals found him moaning in tent at a Quincy, Florida campground Tuesday night.
Keely said Schrenker had slit his left wrist, stabbed his left arm and was lying in a considerable pool of his own blood.
Based on the amount of blood lost, and the fact that some of it had already dried, Keely estimated Schrenker had inflicted the wounds about an hour earlier.
The Marshal added they found Schrenker with alcohol, pills, $2,000 cash and survival gear.
There were maps in the tent on which Schrenker had marked a handful of other area campgrounds, Keely added.
Investigators believe Schrenker was flying from Indiana to Florida when he parachuted out of the six seater plane over Harpersville, Alabama.
The plane later crashed on auto pilot in Milton, Florida.
A Harpersville mini storage company reported that Schrenker stored a red Yamaha motorcycle in one of there units on Saturday and told them he would be back on Monday to ride it to Florida.
Tuesday the Indiana Secretary of State's office announced two felony charges against Schrenker for operating as an unlicensed investment advisor.
He faces a maximum of 8 years in prison if convicted.
Schrenker is currently recovering in a Tallahassee, Florida hospital.
