A fire department official says a tanker truck had broken down on a road, and was being taken to a shop for repairs.
While in the shop, the truck fell off a lift, and spilled about 1400 gallons of fuel.
The incident is at 924 31st Street North.
The dispatch call was put out about 1:20 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2009.
Fire crews remain on the scene at this time, as well as the Jefferson County EMA.
The fuel has been contained, and did not reach the sewer system.
