Update: Standoff with three hostages ends at Georgia motel

A standoff with a former police officer and authorities at a Georgia motel ended Monday when an infant was placed in an ambulance and the suspect was taken away in a police car. A man wearing body armor came out of the Red Roof Inn motel off Interstate 20 around 9:30 a.m. and put the infant into anambulance. Moments later, the man believed to be the suspect was taken away.

A standoff with a former police officer and
authorities at a Georgia motel ended Monday when an infant was
placed in an ambulance and the suspect was taken away in a police
car.

A man wearing body armor came out of the Red Roof Inn motel off
Interstate 20 around 9:30 a.m. and put the infant into an
ambulance. Moments later, the man believed to be the suspect was
taken away.

Authorities say David Dietz, 25, kidnapped the infant and two
women on Saturday night in West Columbia. Shots were fired during
the kidnapping, and authorities said Dietz was wearing a black
uniform with "police" written on the back and on his sleeves.

It's was immediately clear where Dietz' estranged wife,
29-year-old Eva Arce-Perez and 17-year-old Jamie Lynn Burgess were
as the standoff ended.

Columbia, S.C., police spokesman Brick Lewis said Dietz was
hired by the department in June 2006 and had just recently been
sworn in as a police officer before he resigned in October 2006.
