With the first decrease in the state unemployment rate since September 2007, the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations announced a decrease of .4%. That percentage represents a drop of almost 9,000 unemployed persons. Jobs showing increases were in trade, transportation, and utilities and manufacturing. Monthly losses occurred in the following sectors: financial activities; other services; and leisure and hospitality.
The counties with the lowest unemployment rate in November were: Shelby at 7.3%, Madisonat 7.3%, Coffee at 7.8% and Pike at 8.2%. The counties with the highest rates were: Wilcox at 24.3%, Monroe at 21.1% and Dallas at 20.3%.
