U.S. officials investigating new strain of swine flu

(AP) - The number of known U.S. cases of a new strain of
swine flu stands at eight, but investigators are checking into
other possible reports.
Twenty 20 people have died of the new strain in Mexico, and
possibly as many as 68.
The virus has sickened three people in Texas and five in
California. They have all recovered from symptoms similar to those
of a regular flu: mostly fever, cough and sore throat, though some
also experienced vomiting and diarrhea.
Meanwhile, in New York City, officials report that about 75
Queens high school students have fallen ill with flu-like symptoms.
Testing is under way to rule out the new strain found in Mexico.
The CDC says two flu drugs, Tamiflu and Relenza, seem effective
against the new strain. Drug-maker Roche says the company is
prepared to quickly deploy its drug stockpile if requested.
