A man wanted on robbery charges in Montana has been taken into custody after a ground search near the Alabama State Fair in Pelham today.
At 12:45 p.m., an Alabama State Fair employee contacted the Pelham Police Department and stated that a white male was seeking employment and had warrants in Montana.
Officers were dispatched to the area, and the suspect fled on foot. Pelham Police immediately set up a perimeter of the area and a search for the suspect began with help from Alabama State Troopers, Hoover Police and the Alabama Prison System.
The suspect, Preston Edward Goff, 58, was found and taken into custody at 4:20 p.m. Goff has active robbery warrants in Flathead County, Mont.
Goff was transported to the Pelham Police Department where he is currently waiting extradition.
Valley Elementary and Valley Intermediate schools went in lockdown Monday around 2:30 p.m. as police searched for Goff. The students were released with the help of Pelham Police just after 3 p.m.
