Tributes were marked today by national ceremonies in New York, Virginia and Pennsylvania, where terrorists attacked in the morning hours.

In lower Manhattan, victims' families gather at an adjacent park near Ground Zero.

In between the reading of the victims' names, moments of silence mark the times when planes struck the Twin Towers and when the buildings collapsed.

Construction of the Freedom Tower and World Trade Center site stops today so families can once again walk down the ramp and lay flowers at the sacred place where many victims' remains were never recovered.

This year, presidential rivals John McCain and Barack Obama agreed to put politics aside for the day and will make a joint appearance at Ground Zero to honor the victims.

At the Pentagon in Arlington, Va., President Bush will dedicate a new memorial opening to the public tonight.

The two-acre park features 184 cantilevered benches and reflecting pools, one for each victim.

In Shanksville, Penn., a new symbol honoring the 40 passengers and crew members who died on United Flight 93.

A two-ton steel cross made out of World Trade Center steel now serves as the centerpiece near the crash site.

Memorials and ties that bind the three sites and the nation on this anniversary.
