Several communities in the Birmingham area held Patriot Day ceremonies this morning. Residents are remembering this somber anniversary in different ways, but with a universal theme of "we will not forget."
In Hoover, city leaders, firefighters and police honored those who lost their lives on 9-11 and those serving our country. Ceremonies were held at each of the Hoover fire stations to pay tribute to the victims of 9-11 and the 24 Hoover residents who have fought the war on terror since Sept. 11, 2001.
Major Evalena Lewis says, "This day is very important to look and realize the things that happened and to look where we are today. Because this day will never go away this day will always rage in our hearts."
Hoover resident Angela George says, "It makes me feel a pride for all the people who didn't think about themselves and went in and saved the people in those buildings and it just represents the spirit of this country."
At Birmingham fire stations all over the city, officials acknowledged the exact moment that planes hit each world trade center tower and the Pentagon. Mountain Brook, Homewood and Vestavia Hills also held 9-11 remembrance ceremonies this morning.
