Birmingham's 55th homicide victim was killed before 9 Thursday night in the 4100 block of 39th Avenue. In Bessemer, he's remembered as a hero.
Demetrius Reigns coached the McAdory Yellow Jackets little league football team. They are a group of five and six-year olds with a lot of heart in the Bessemer community.
'The First 48' crews, along with Birmingham police, documented Reigns' murder.
"He was all about family -- if it was his own family or his football family, he was building a house in the community he really just loved the kids," said Reigns' friend, Jason Hudgins.
Dozens of families prayed and paid respects to the man who spent several days a week coaching football and giving back to the community. As police search for the coach's killer, Yellow Jacket parents are figuring out a way to explain death to their five-year-olds.
